Y2K
Frosted, candy, and unembarrassed.
Iridescent pink, holographic silver, baby blue with a glitter tip, the smile-line French in a color the smile line was not invented for. Y2K is not nostalgia — it is permission. The 2000s manicure was the first manicure that did not pretend to be elegant. It said: nails can be a toy. They can match a phone case. They can clash with the outfit on purpose. Wear it at twenty-five and you look like you remember; wear it at forty and you look like you survived something with your sense of color intact. The risk is reading costume. The fix is one detail per nail, never the same detail twice. A different glitter, a different tip color, a different angle. Disorder, but composed.
