Smoke Quartz

Translucent gray, the color of fogged glass.

Smoke quartz is the most adult color in this library — it is the color a hand chooses for itself once the hand is no longer trying to be someone's idea of a hand. Translucent. Cool. The bed of the nail shows through, but tinted, the way the world looks through tinted glass. People assume it's gothic. It isn't — gothic is opaque, smoke quartz is sheer. Smoke quartz is what you choose when you want depth without weight. It pairs with hands that have been doing something with the morning. It does not pair with new manicures — it has to settle a day before it looks correct.
